Chicago City Guide Chicago Transportation The ever popular city of Chicago, Illinois, is served by two major airports as well as having excellent road and rail links to other neighbouring cities and beyond. Chicago by Air There are two major airports that serve the Chicago area: Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Chicago Midway Airport. Both are busy gateways to and from the city, though international visitors are most likely to arrive through O'Hare. Chicago by Road The I-90 drives heads into Chicago from as far away as Seattle, Washington and is one of Chicago's most important trade routes. East of Chicago, the I-80 runs from New York via Cleveland, Ohio. I-55 arrives in from the south. Getting Around Chicago Driving in downtown Chicago is difficult as the city can get busy and the traffic can be dense. Public transport is easily the best option, with an excellent bus service and the 'Loop', an impressive, elevated rail network that operates above the downtown business district. Like New York's subway and London's Underground, such a trip to the vast 'Loop' complex is an essential activity on the roster of most Chicago visitors.
