New Orleans City Guide New Orleans Transportation As well as the New Orleans International Airport, the state of Louisiana has excellent infrastructure with superb road and rail networks. New Orleans by Air New Orleans International Airport (MSY) is located 24 kilometers west of the city in the region of Kenner. MSY handles a large number of domestic flights as well as a good international service. New Orleans by Road I-10 heads into New Orleans from Houston, Texas and Los Angeles, California from the west, and Mobile, Alabama and Jacksonville, Florida from the east. I-55 arrives into New Orleans from Memphis, St Louis, Missouri and Chicago, Illinois. Getting Around New Orleans Taxis from New Orleans International Airport into the downtown area are numerous and reasonably priced. The visitor should probably not consider driving in New Orleans as traffic problems of all kinds are rife and parking rules are tight and strictly enforced. However, streetcars are plentiful and offer a fun way of seeing the city. Be warned that the historic cars do require you have the correct fare, though Visitor Passes are available and they allow for unlimited travel on streetcars and buses with the choice of one or three day passes.
