As well as its own international airport, San Diego, California has excellent road and rail links that make traveling into and out of the city a painless experience.

San Diego by Air

San Diego International Airport is located 3 kilometers northwest of San Diego. SAN is used by a large number of both international and domestic carriers heading for California. Of course, due to San Diego's close proximity to Los Angeles, many travelers fly into Los Angeles International Airport and travel on to San Diego.

San Diego by Road

I-5, the highway that sprawls down America's west coast terminates at San Diego. This is the route to take if driving from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle. The I-15 arrives in San Diego from the north west, therefore drivers heading from Las Vegas and Salt Lake City should take this rote. The I-8 arrives into San Diego from Arizona. The I-17 that connects Phoenix and Tucson intersects with the I-8.

Getting Around San Diego

The easiest way to get around town is by the city bus system. Trolley buses run from the railway station to the downtown area of El Cajon and during the rush hours a commuter rail service operates from the Santa Fe depot along the north coast of the city. A ferry crosses the harbor from the Broadway Pier to Coronado and there are cycle routes in Pacific Beach, Mission Beach and Coronado.
