Seattle City Guide Seattle Transportation Seattle, Washington has excellent interstate highway and rail links as well as, of course, being served by an international airport. Once in Seattle, there are a number of efficient and reliable ways to get around town. Seattle by Air Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is located 17 kilometers south of downtown Seattle. SEA is a busy, efficient airport that carries almost 30 million passengers annually around the world, on more than 40 airlines. Visitors to western Canada also quite regularly make use of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Seattle by Road Two major interstate highways serve Seattle; the I-5 comes in from Portland and San Francisco, California, the Canadian border and Vancouver, British Columbia. I-90 links Seattle with central and eastern Washington State, passing through Rapid City and Sioux Falls on its way to east to Chicago, Illinois and Boston, Massachusetts. Getting Around Seattle The streets of Seattle are almost always busy and visitors are not advised to drive around the downtown area if it can be avoided. The local bus system is the best alternative, reasonably priced and efficient. Taxis are plentiful and most hotels will arrange transport to and from the airport.
